Toning – the elusive middle step in the quick but classic “cleanse-tone-moisturise” skincare routine. Many skip it, many forget all about it and some don’t actually know what it involves. Thankfully for them, they have us to shed some light on this important yet oft-forgotten skincare step.
We meet a lot of people in our line of work that we would call “skincare lifers”. These are people that have been using the same skincare brand (and maybe even the same product) for years. They swear by its efficacy and won’t understand why anyone would want to “experiment” with other brands. Basically they are resistant to change. Which is OK, we totally empathise…but, it is a damn shame. Skincare has evolved A LOT in the past couple of decades – new “hero” ingredients are being discovered everyday, cosmetic companies are working on more interesting formulations and even devices, all to help us achieve our skincare goals. Moreover, our skin is evolving too – as we grow older, as the seasons or our hormones change and the environment around us changes. If our skin condition changes throughout our lives, why shouldn’t our skincare?
I have dry skin, and it is literally the bane of my existence. I know it sounds like I have irrationally strong feelings about my skin type, but it’s the truth, so there. Only fellow dry-skinned folk can understand that uncomfortable tight, parched feeling first thing in the morning. Or how plane travel can make you feel like your skin is cracking. Not fun.
